LIONGOREN Gallery presents its annual exhibit 2010 Walong Filipina: Mga Alagad ng Kalikasan to celebrate women’s month and the coming Earth Day by April.
The eight Filipina environmentalists are Evelyn Cacha, founding and active member of Alyansa Laban sa Mina (ALAMIN) in Mindoro, UP Tacloban Dean Margarita dela Cruz, coastal resource management expert and recent awardee "Bayani ng Kalikasan" granted by Center for Environmental Concerns, Phil., Sis. Luz Emmanuel, Assumption Antipolo maverick who developed the most successful program on environmental protection integrated in the school curriculum with a school-based mini forest and butterfly sanctuary, Atty. Ipat Luna, an environmental lawyer and passionate member of the Wild Bird Club of the Philippines, Judea Millora MD., a waste management expert cum herbalist, Jurgenne Primavera Phd., internationally renowned advocate of sustainable fish farming and connected with SEAFDEC, Iloilo. Lydia Robledo, Philippine butterfly habitat conservation advocate and 80-year old Luz Sabas, who together with her late husband pioneered waste management in the Philippines now based in Cagayan province. Their persona and respective advocacies are portrayed by noted visual artists who are based in the same locality of their origin or place of work. These are Egai Talusan Fernandez, Efren Garcellano, Renato Habulan, Rico Palacio, Mario de Rivera, Mark Salvatus, Jojit Solano and PG Zoluaga. Research work on the subjects are supplied by a UP Arts Studies class under Professor Flaudette May Datuin.
Workshops and fora on environmental protection with the honorees as resource person will be conducted during the run of the exhibition: April 15 Liongoren Gallery 111 New York/Stanford Sts. Cubao, Quezon City and April 17-May 1, 2010 Liongoren Gallery 301 Tapuac Dist., Dagupan City.
Schedule of collateral activities will be announced during the opening receptions. The exhibit is sponsored by the UP Delta Lambda Sigma Sorority Alumnae Association.
