Repertory Philippines' 'Love's Labour's Lost'
Blog by Gibbs Cadiz

Repertory Philippines presents William Shakespeare's “Love's Labour's Lost” as a reimagined play set in the mid-'80s in Manila’s University Belt right before the EDSA revolution. Those were the days of Psychedelic Furs, Spandau Ballet, early Madonna and Duran Duran, women with big hair, raccoon eyes and shoulder pads, and men with “siyete” haircuts and baggy pants.

Shakespeare entertains audiences through exuberant physical comedy and witty wordplay in this play, about a king and his cohorts who vow to spend three years devoted only to study with no distraction at all from anyone or anything, only to find themselves tempted by ladies and love when the princess and her entourage arrive on a visit.

Director Bart Guingona's cast includes Epy Quizon, Nic Manahan, Hans Eckstein, Gabs Santos, Micah Muñoz, Jenny Jamora, Cris Villonco, Crisel Consunji and Caisa Borromeo, ably supported by Ana Bitong, Oliver Usison, Jejie Esguerra, Kenneth Keng, Pom Docena, Dingdong Rosales and Bonggoy Manahan.

“Love's Labour's Lost” runs September 15-October 7 at Onstage, Greenbelt 1, Makati City. For tickets, schedules, inquires, showbuying, sponsorships and group discounts, call 8870710 or 891999.
