MANILA, Philippines—Every year, Inquirer Entertainment helps readers pick a show for that special day, by asking the concert artists to talk about their gigs … and romance. This is our last call for V-Day 2010.

The Greatest Love

Jed Madela, tonight, Grand Ballroom, Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Makati. Call 8199999.

Jed Madela

How I usually spend Valentine’s Day: I remember writing tons of Valentine cards for all those close to me. Of course, the ones really special had a rose along with the card.

Unique Valentine date experience: While everybody chose to spend it in fancy restaurants in the city, we opted to escape to the beach and enjoyed each other’s company with a picnic and a bonfire.

Ideal Valentine date: A candlelit dinner for two in a garden with all the works: a perfectly cooked meal, champagne and a string quartet playing in the background. Then after the meal, we’d sit back and enjoy the star-filled sky.

Most romantic song: Eric Benet’s “The Last Time.” The words are simple yet precisely speak of falling in love for the last time and promising to spend life with that special someone.

Why you should watch my concert: I think my Valentine concert would be the best to watch because it will showcase generations of love songs, which will surely touch the hearts of young and old alike. It’ll be a night of pure heart and music.

Groovin’ Love

Jay-R and Billy Crawford with special guests Kyla and Nikki Gil; Feb. 14, 8 p.m. SMX Convention Center Halls 3 and 4, Pasay City. Call 6377016.

Jay-R

How I usually spend Valentine’s Day: I enjoy the traditional dinner and movie. There is nothing better than having good food, good conversation and an entertaining movie with the person you want to spend time with.

Ideal Valentine date: Dinner and a movie.

Fantasy date: Krissa Mae.

Most romantic song: “Always and Forever.”

Why you should watch our concert: Everyone will be singing and dancing with us. It’s a young and fresh concert with a DJ giving a clubbing vibe. We invite couples and singles.

Nikki Gil

How I usually spend Valentine’s Day: When I was still single, I actually attended a singles party. But I also used to spend it alone at home. I liked wallowing in self-pity.

Ideal Valentine date: It doesn’t necessarily have to be a romantic affair. As long as you’re with people you love, even if it’s family, it should be enjoyable.

Fantasy date: I’ve always wanted to go out with this R&B performer. Forgot his name, though. Heard he’s a real gentleman. Very cute, too. His name is Billy something.

Most romantic song: “Someone” by Music Soulchild.

Why you should watch our concert: Because all of us have experienced Valentine’s Day as singles and we know how it feels not to have anyone on that special day. This concert caters to everyone! Couples, singles, the broken-hearted, the bitter ones, and those searching for “The One.”

Kyla

How I usually spend Valentine’s Day: I spend it with my boyfriend. But every year I usually have a concert. So we celebrate it after my show. We have dinner somewhere.

Ideal Valentine date: Have dinner somewhere quiet and romantic. By the beach.

Fantasy date: Josh Hartnett.

Most romantic song: “Lost Without You” by Robin Thicke and “Last Time.”

Why you should watch our show: We always make sure that everyone is entertained. We’ll sing songs that tug at the heartstrings.

Billy Crawford

How I usually spend Valentine’s Day: Alone with my “Baba”! Candlelit dinner and flowers.

Ideal Valentine date: Nothing too fancy, but sweet and romantic.

Fantasy date: I’m with her almost everyday.

Most romantic song: “Love” and “Someone” by Musiq Soulchild.

Why you should watch our show: Because we’re there.

MYMP Now

Featuring the band’s new lead singer Juliet Bahala; tonight, 8 p.m. Music Museum, Greenhills. Call 7216726.

Juliet Bahala

Ideal Valentine date: Deep conversation, discovering things about one another and doing some crazy stuff since I’m the adventurous type. I would like it to be memorable.

Fantasy date: Hollywood actor Channing Tatum. I think he’s a great and talented man.

Most romantic song: “When God Made You” by Natalie Grant. I really love to hear the lyrics of this song. Here’s my favorite line: “When God made you, he must have been thinking about me.”

Why you should watch our concert: This will be our first concert for the year and we’re offering something new.

Chin Alcantara

Ideal Valentine date: I would love to have an intimate dinner by the beach and watch the sun rise.

Why you should watch our show: We have a new vocalist, Juliet, and she may be the next big thing! She has a different style, that’s why we’re adapting our sound to her voice.

The Tiongco Brothers

Special guest Mari Nallos; Feb. 14, 9 p.m. Heritage Casino Hotel, Roxas Boulevard corner Edsa, Pasay City. Call 8548888.

Emil Tiongco

How I usually spend Valentine’s Day: A rose for the wife in the morning and a simple dinner later in one of the restaurants nearby.

Ideal Valentine date: A dinner-show in a hotel.

Most romantic song: “Unchained Melody,” my first winning song when I joined “Tawag ng Tanghalan.”

Why you should watch our show: So you could see for yourselves that we are still a dynamic singing trio even at our no-longer-young age.

Mari Nallos

What I usually do on Valentine’s Day: I go out to have dinner and have a fun night with friends or family.

Ideal Valentine date: In a place overlooking a beautiful lake, watching the sunset and then having dinner.

Most romantic song: “The Way You Look Tonight” and “Ikaw,” because every time I sing them, the audience’s faces light up.

Why you should watch our show: The Tiongco Brothers and I are going to serenade you with love songs of today and yesteryears. You’ll fall more in love with your significant other. Or, if you’re single, it will inspire you to find “The One.”

A Special Valentine

Ramon Jacinto, Feb. 13, 9 p.m. (dinner at 7:30 p.m.), Hard Rock Cafe, Makati. Call 8934661 to 64.

How I usually spend Valentine’s Day: For the past 24 years, I have been performing on that day but previously I would spend it with a quiet, formal dinner with my wife in an elegant restaurant.

Ideal Valentine date: I thought it was a dinner date with Angelina Jolie but I’d rather spend it with my wife.

Fantasy date: Same as above.

Most romantic song: “I’ll Remember You” by Elvis Presley. It’s simple and it talks about everlasting love.

Why you should watch my concert: Because it has a romantic portion (acoustic set) and then jolly partying and dancing. Now how many shows can offer that?

Love Forever Young

Jose Mari Chan and Karylle; Feb. 14, 8:30 p.m., Grand Ballroom, Bellevue Hotel, Alabang. Call 7718181.

Jose Mari Chan

How I usually spend Valentine’s Day: For the past 20 or so years, I’ve been performing on stage. Sometimes abroad somewhere, but more often here in the Philippines. Otherwise my wife and I would have a simple dinner together at home or in a favorite restaurant and take in a movie.

Ideal Valentine date: Riding a sailboat or a hot air balloon, with a bottle of chilled champagne, background music of John Williams’ “Out of Africa” and “If We Were in Love.”

Fantasy date: I would want to invite Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta Jones to dinner. Why Michael Douglas? Because Catherine wouldn’t come without him.

Most romantic song: Henry Mancini’s “Two For The Road” has got to be one of the most romantic songs. The other is his “Moment To Moment.” I could name you 63 other titles.

Why you should watch our concert: Because no one else sings my original love songs. You won’t hear them anywhere else except in my show.

One Love

Dingdong Avanzado and Jessa Zaragoza; Feb. 13, Pagcor Heritage Hotel, Roxas Boulevard corner Edsa, Pasay. Call 8523340.

To Love … Again

Dingdong Avanzado and Rachel Alejandro; Feb. 20, Pagcor Tagaytay. Call (046) 4131506.

Dingdong Avanzado

How I usually spend Valentine’s Day: If my wife and I are working together that day, we celebrate it after our show.

Unique Valentine date experience: When Jessa and I were living in the United States, we didn’t have a maid so we decided that she would just clean the house than go out to dinner with me. We ended up spending our date cleaning the bathroom that evening. I just ordered take-out food.

Ideal Valentine date: Candlelight dinner with romantic music, maybe by the beach with just the two of us.

Fantasy date: It would be a choice between Marian Rivera or Hillary Clinton. Depending on what mood I’m in that day.

Most romantic song: That’s a hard question. I have a lot of songs in mind that I can easily say would be the most romantic. But the one that pops out of my head right now is “The Last Time” by Eric Bennet. Perfect music for a candlelight dinner and slow dance after.

Why you should watch our concert: If you want a show that is filled with beautiful music and real romance, ours is the show to watch.
