Wuds Turns Silver in Concert at the Park

One of the major pillars in the local rock music world, the Wuds, celebrates its 25th year in Concert at the Park, this Sunday, July 13, 2008, starting at 6:00 p.m. Venue is the Rizal Park Open-Air Auditorium in Rizal Park, Manila. Ms. Minette Padilla is program host.

Concert at the Park is a project of the National Parks Development Committee, under Executive Director Carlito A. Fajardo, in cooperation with the National Broadcasting Network. Mr. Federico A. Edos is the Executive In Charge of the project. Mrs. Gie Arnold writes the script.

One of the first and most influential punk rock bands in the country in the '80s was the Wuds. Howlin' Dave's punk rock show on Manila radio station DZRJ provided maximum radio airplay for the group. But the group still had little mainstream acceptance and remained outside of mass acceptance until the early '90s when Manila underwent an alternative rock revolution. They were then lauded as pioneers of Pinoy punk rock music. In 1994, the Wuds released their long-awaited debut album titled, "At Nakalimutan Ang Diyos", which solidified the band's status as one of the country's true punk rock bands. This was followed by "Gera", an intense record with powerful social and commentary; the anti-war track "Ang Umibig Sa 'Yo", which became a hit on Philippine alternative radio stations. "By refusing to soften or polish their sound to appeal to a larger market, the Wuds continued their reign as the Philippines' most respected veteran rock outfit."

The Wuds, after playing for 25 years now, remains a force to be reckoned with in the local alternative music scene, and still retains the gut-feel throbbing sound which characterizes the band's distinctive punk style.

For its 'Silver' concert this Sunday, the Wuds has prepared the following line-up of songs, all composed by Bobby Balingit: TIME SPACE WARP, SA IBANG MUNDO, SAMPAGUITA, ANG UMIBIG SA IYO, PINTOR, AT NAKALIMUTAN ANG DIYOS, MAIANETT, TRAFFIC, SINISI SA NANAY, DECLARE INDEPENDENCE, TIRI CORDI JOE and INOSENTE LANG ANG NAGTATAKA
