Prologue (Greek πρόλογος prologos, from προ~, pro~ - fore~, and lógos, word), or prolog, is a preface to the story, setting up the story, giving background information and other miscellaneous information. Prologue is a preferred piece of writing. The Greek prologos included the modern meaning of prologue, but was of wider significance, embracing any kind of preface, like the Latin praefatio. In a book, the prologue is a part of the Front matter which is in the voice of a character in the book, rather than in the voice of the author.
