Maja opens year on a high note

Two Ina’s (Raymundo and Feleo), two dashing leading men (Patrick Garcia and Jason Abalos), two directors (Katskie Flores and Toto Natividad) with the busiest actress at the moment – Maja Salvador – make up the core team of ABS-CBN’s sizzling afternoon series, "Precious Hearts Romances Presents Lumayo Ka Man sa Akin," which premieres on ABS-CBN this Jan. 23.

The high-rating afternoon program returns in a big way via this project, after coming out with only one title in 2011. And Maja feels extra fortunate that she is starring in "Lumayo Ka Man sa Akin," which is based on Martha Cecilia’s "Pangako" about Janine del Castillo, a girl who seems to have everything – looks, wealth, love.

Janine was raised alone by her dad, Maurice (Ariel Rivera) and years later, after his dad gets sick, she searches for the woman, Consuelo (Ina Raymundo), who abandoned her when she was a baby.

While looking for her mom, Janine meets Jake Falcon (Jason), who will make her think twice about marrying her fiancé, Matthew dela Vega (Patrick).

Aside from having a busy career with a daily TV series and appearing in the weekly "ASAP Rocks," Maja’s lovelife is also doing good. She and Matteo Guidicelli have been together for three years now and incidentally, are starring together in another big project, Star Cinema’s "My Cactus Heart," which will open in theaters nationwide on January 25.

She and Matteo are vocal in their affection for each other. They have been together for give or take three years and – aside from the usual ups and downs – the young lovers are both optimistic that they end up together. Maja admits that she appreciates Matteo’s deep love for her. "Sana siya na," she intones, hoping that Matteo would be her last relationship.

In the movie, however, Matteo does not have a monopoly on Maja’s affection. There are two guys vying for her character, Sandy’s, "cactus heart." But she is wont to drop them both.

Blame it all on Sandy’s background. Coming from a dysfunctional family, she grows up believing that love would only mean being hurt. There’s no happily-ever-after for Sandy. She is known to be a "chronic mambabasted."

However, Bene (Xian Lim) and Karlo (Matteo) are eager to prove her wrong. They both try to win Sandy’s jaded heart.

The real-life pair is joined by Bettina Carlos, Bea Saw, Lemuel Pelayo, Nina Dolino and Johan Santos.

Star Cinema’s "My Cactus Heart" is directed by Enrico Santos.
