Indie film ASKAL by Marc Misa will premier this Saturday Feb.5 8pm at CCP Dream Theatre

ASKAL (Street Dogs) is the new indie feature of Marc Misa. Inspired by true events and personalities. Marc Misa has been working on the story since 2004 loosely based on his friends in the College of Fine Arts in U.P Diliman. Since then, the story has grown and evolved to be a grand work of fiction. The director of photography of ASKAL is Steven Flor, a finalist of 2010 Cinemalaya short film entiltled Breakfast with Lolo. Misa and Flor studied film at International Academy of Film and Television in Mactan Cebu City.

ASKAL will premier this Saturday February 5 at CCP (Cultural Center of the Philippines Dream Theater) as the finale of artfest. Cocktails at 7pm and showing at 8pm. No ticket required.

ASKAL portrays the live of five young Filipino artists with the mission to inspire the nation by advocating art, beauty and the freedom of expression among the desperate and disheartened street in Manila.

Through ASKAL we intend to inspire minds and entertain audiences with a positive advocacy through art and the creative spirit of the Filipino. Askal has been awarded a grant by NCCA ( National Commission for Culture and Arts) to initiate the project.

ASKAL cast include Perry Escano, LC de Leon, Pat Portes, Xeno Alejandro,Anton Villaruel and theater, T.V. And film veteran actress Ms. Ermie Concepcion. The producers of ASKAL are Mike Cabardo and Gem Misa.


Synopsis

ASKAL starts out as a school project and a modest documentary film about street art and graffiti shot by five arts students. They set out to decorate public streets and walls with paintings, sculptures, installations and many other forms of art. Their controversial project soon becomes a grand operation to change the face of the city. Living the height of their young, passionate, idealistic lives, the friends develop a bond that seems to outlast any trial or tribulation, but underneath the rush of all the events, their cultural revolution turns their lives into a test of identity, stregnth, love and ultimate survival. Shot through the lens of amateur filmmaker and lead character Lucas dela Costa (Perry Escano), ASKAL is a memorable tale that will take you on a visual and aesthetic journey that will stir your creative soul.
