MANILA, Philippines - The Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences (Famas), the country’s oldest awards body, has bared its list of nominees for major categories.

Famas, now in its 56th year, cited both mainstream and indie films.

Mainstream movies like Star Cinema’s “A Love Story” and “Paano Kita Iibigin” and Maverick’s “Katas ng Saudi” are vying for Best Picture along with indie productions like Cinema One Originals’ “Confessional” and Artiste Entertainment Works International’s “Ataul for Rent.”

In the race for Best Director are award veterans Maryo J. de los Reyes (“A Love Story”) and Jose Javier Reyes (“Katas”) and relative newcomers Adolf Alix Jr. (“Batanes”), Mark Reyes (“Resiklo”), and Neil “Buboy” Tan (“Ataul”).

Mainstream actors dominate the acting derbies.

For Best Actor: John Lloyd Cruz (“One More Chance”), Aga Muhlach (“A Love”), Piolo Pascual (“Paano Kita”) and two senators, Jinggoy Estrada (“Katas”) and Ramon Revilla Jr. (“Resiklo”).

Best Actress: Bea Alonzo (“One More Chance”), Lorna Tolentino (“Katas”), Judy Ann Santos (“Sakal, Sakali, Saklolo”), Maricel Soriano (“A Love”) and Regine Velasquez (“Paano Kita”).

Supporting Actor: Mon Confiado (“Faces of Love”), Dingdong Dantes (“Resiklo”), Christopher de Leon (“Banal”), Publio Briones III (“Confessional”) and Robin da Roza (“Paano”).

Awards night is set Nov. 29 at the Manila Hotel.
