UPFI Film Center this September 2011

Grand selections from .mov Fest, the Brazil Film Festival under the auspices of the Embassy of Brazil and Goethe Institut’s Reinvigorating Documentary Workshop Films with NCCA and IFC top-bill September screenings at the UP Film Institute’s Film Center.

In anticipation of its full theatrical run in commercial cinemas nationwide and simultaneous overseas engagement via prestigious festivals, the hit Cinemalaya entry, “Ligo Na U, Lapit Na Me,” is once more on view. Complementing its showcase are choice titles gathered for Best of UPFI for this year’s Cinemalaya from Joseph Pascual, Jose Antonio de Rivera, Judd Figuerres, Kim Camelo, Josephine Carreon.

Features for Back to Classics pay homage to ace director Elwood Perez and National Artists Ishmael Bernal and Gerry de Leon. Offerings for Untitled/Visions provide a survey of veritable vanguards of world cinema with films by Woody Allen, Pedro Almodovar, Theo Angelopoulos, Paul Thomas Anderson, Hector Babenco, Ingmar Bergman, Bernardo Bertolucci, Robert Bresson. The lineup for Spotlight on Docus is in observance of the anniversary of Philippine cinema running parallel to which is the Freedom of Expression advocacy screening and forum in conjunction with present initiatives to end film censorship in the country.

Capping the month’s screenings is John Sayles’ “Amigo” - the latest film from the icon of American independent cinema.
