2nd Cyprus International Short Film Festival


    2nd Cyprus International Short Film Festival to be held in April 2009 will include competitive and non-competitive sections. The competition categories in this edition of the festival are fiction and documentary. You can submit your short films completed after January 2007 to the festival by 16th of January, 2009.     For the non-competitive screenings you can submit your animation, experimental, documentary or fiction short films regardless of the production year again by the submission deadline.

    The films submitted to both competitive and non-competitive sections of the festival must not exceed 30 minutes in duration and there are no entry fees.


*** THE COMPETITION ***

The competitive section of the festival will be performed in two categories: fiction and documentary. Both fiction and documentary films should not exceed 30 minutes. The contestants will pass through a pre-selection process and after that the festival jury will select the winners. The films that pass the pre-selection process and become finalists will be shown to viewers during the festival in a section called ‘Festival Shorts’.

Some of the awards are:

In fiction category:

• Best fiction short film
• Best script in a fiction short film
• Best editing in a fiction short film
• Best cinematography in a fiction short film

In documentary category:

• Best documentary short film
• Best environmental documentary
• Best editing in a documentary short film
• Best cinematography in a documentary short film

and

• Best actor/actress in a short film


***APPLICATION TO NON-COMPETITIVE SECTION ***

Fiction, experimental, documentary, and animation short films not exceeding 30 minutes can apply for the non-competitive section. The selected films will be shown in ‘Festival Shorts’.


CONDITIONS OF APPLICATION

  1. The festival consists of two parts: “Competition” and “Non-competition”.
  2. Fiction and Documentary type films in any format can apply for the festival’s competition part.
  3. Festival is open to everyone, amateur or professional.
  4. Fiction and documentary short films not exceeding 30 minutes can be submitted for the competition.
  5. There is no subject restriction for the films.
  6. Each director/producer can submit more than one film to the festival.
  7. Only the films produced after January 2007 can be submitted to the festival. To apply with films which were shown or awarded in other national/international festivals is not prohibited.
  8. The application form can be found at the festival’s web site (www.cyprusshortsfest.com).
  9. The applicants accept upon application that up to three minutes of their films can be used with reference in festival’s advertisements and non-commercial art events held in Cyprus.
  10. The screening committee will announce the finalists of competitive and non-competitive sections at the festival’s web site.
  11. The finalists will meet with the audience within the festival’s program.
  12. The organization committee should receive one DVD (PAL) copy of the film, no matter what the original format is, during application.
  13. Deadline for application is 16th January, 2009. Applicants should send the following items by this date to the festival address:
    • Application form (completely filled and signed),
    • One DVD copy of the film, DVD+R (PAL) (with English subtitles)
    • In a CD: director’s photograph, resume, filmography, stills from the film and synopsis of the film.
  14. On the envelope which will be adressed to Cyprus Internatioal Short Film Festival should be written “No commercial value, cultural purposes only”.
  15. The films will not be returned to the applicants, they will be kept in the festival archive.
  16. An application cannot be cancelled after the festival program is announced.
  17. The films whose original language is not English should be subtitled in English in order to be followed by an international audience.
  18. The submitted films will first be screened by a pre-selection committee. The final results will be given by the festival jury in an official jury meeting which will be held one day prior to the award ceremony where all the results will be announced.
  19. The decisions given by the pre-selection committee and the festival jury are final.
  20. The conditions of application are the twenty (20) articles including this one.
