Cinema Rehiyon: Alter Nativo
(Films From The Other Philippines)

Tired of watching indie movies set in the same old locations of Metro Manila? Do you want to see what kinds of films are being made out there in the towns, provinces and regions outside of this city? Are you interested in exploring the myriad and complex cinematic undercurrents
brewing in the far-flung places in this country? Do you want to experience films with a vibe that is fresh, new and totally different from your usual urban fare?

Well, wait no more. We give you a film festival like no other.

"CINEMA REHIYON: ALTER NATIVO (Films From The Other Philippines) " is the first national film festival that will solely focus on the movies being created outside of Metro Manila. Here are films set in the various regions of the country made by local filmmakers, truly reflecting their own cultures and way of life. Cinema Rehiyon is a non-competition film festival that aims to throw the spotlight on the film communities that are growing rapidly across the nation.

Short and full-length films from all over the Philippines will be exhibited, most of them being shown in Metro Manila for the very first time. It will feature the best and the brightest of the emerging filmmakers who are making their movies in their own dialect, set in their own local towns and cities. The cities that will be representing their regions are: Bacolod, Baguio, Cagayan de Oro, Cebu, Davao, Iloilo and Naga. There will also be a section called ATBP which will feature works from various parts of the country.

Cinema Rehiyon is a project of the National Commission for Culture and Arts in cooperation with the Cultural Center of the Philippines. It will be held from Feb. 18-21, 2009 at the Cultural Center of the Philippines. It is an official event of the Philippine International Arts Month. All screenings will be free and start at 12 noon. For more details inquire at cinemarehiyon@yahoo.com.

Come and join us. Let's see what's happening out there in the Other Philippines.
