Synopsis:

     Sarah is a nurse at a Public Maternity Hospital. The hospital is abuzz with pregnant mothers of all shapes and sizes in different stages of labor. The hospital is short on staff on Christmas Day so Sarah is forced to put in a double shift.  Sarah observes the women coming and going in her ward, noting who is a first-timer and who is a veteran. Meanwhile, the wards are overcrowded: two women and their babies sharing single beds while those in labor are spilling unto the hallways. Sarah takes these all in stride, her heart and mind laboring over her own personal pains.

Eduardo Roy Jr. graduated from Philippine School of Interior Design (PSID) last year and immediately followed this up with a workshop on Found Story under Bing Lao. Hence, aside from designing living and working spaces for clients, he busies himself with directing and writing screenplays.  His two previous works Ulirat won the Film Academy of the Philippines (FAP) for Best Short Film in 2002; his second film Ang Pinakamahabang One Night Stand was exhibited at the Festival Del Mar Ibiza, Grand Canaria Film Festival in Spain and Reeling Film Festival in Chicago. Bahay Bata is Eduardo Roy Jr.'s first full length feature film.

Jerome Zamora was born in Manila City, Philippines. He graduated at the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (University of the City of Manila) with a degree in Mass Communications.

In 2004, he attended playwriting workshop in the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) —Playwright Initiative Development, under the supervision of Mr. Nestor Torre. He attended Soap Opera Writing Workshop of Star Cinema under the tutelage of Ricky Lee and was part of the 1st Pablo S. Gomez Film and TV Scriptwriting Workshop.

He works closely with Adolfo Alix Jr., a young prolific Filipino director, which he started as a production apprentice for TAMBOLISTA (Drumbeat), and later as a production designer for DAYBREAK, IMORAL, (Amoral) AURORA and ADELA which earned him the Best Visual Design (Pinakamahusay na Disenyong Biswal) in the 19th Young Critics Circle Award Annual Citation. In 2008, his first short film, ANG BAKASYON NI CAN-CAN (Can-Can’s Summer) became a finalist in the Cinemalaya Kid’s Treat— a short feature film screening for and about children, another brainchild of Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival of the CCP in cooperation with National Council for Children’s Television (NCCT). It was also screened at the Gawad CCP Para sa Alternatibong Pelikula and NCCT’s 1st Cinepambata Film Festival late this year.

KARERA, his screenwriting debut, is one of the finalists for the Cinemalaya NETPAC (Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema) Prize of the 2009 Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival and had its European premiere at the Spectrum Section of 2010 International Film Festival Rotterdam and screened at the Golden Horse Film Festival in Taiwan.

He just finished writing his 3rd screenplay entitled HARUO, about the journey of a Japanese mami vendor living in the outskirt of Manila. Bahay-bata (Baby Factory) is his second screenplay.
